I'm in a relationship with a really great girl. We've been dating for over a year now, and two months ago I popped the question. She said yes, so we set the date for June 17th next year. The problem is this: We got together under less than desirable circumstances. She was winding down a 3 1/2 year relationship with her high school sweetheart, and when I barged into the situation I gave her what she needed to get away from him permanently.

They broke up and we got together. Everything is peachy and I thought he would fade away, but this guy won't stop calling. It hasn't even gotten to be a weekly thing, but the fact that she defends his right to call her is bothering me immensely. We argue about whether or not it's okay for them to talk, and remain on an 'active' friendship basis. I realize that nothing is happening with them, but I still think that leaving the door open is inappropriate. (especially now that we're engaged) She interprets my request that they stop talking as controlling, and obsessive, but I try to tell her that I'm trying to protect our relationship. What do you think??

I think ex-boyfriend is still interested in her, and she may be still interested in him.

If the two of you don't live together, you don't know how often he calls. You don't know that nothing is happening between them. You only know what she tells you.

She likes talking to him. He likes talking to her. She seems to be more concerned with his feelings than yours. Not good. Your actions aren't controlling or obsessive, but they reek of insecurity.

Will he continue to call once you and she are married? What in the hell does he want?! A marriage filled with doubt won't last very long. She needs to ask herself who is more important; you or him. Then she needs to make a choice.

I think he is missing his good thing now that she's gone, and is trying with all his might to get her back.
