I have been dating a recently divorced man for 7 months. Last week he said he needed to be alone. He felt he needed his independence and does not want a girlfriend right now.
During our talks he changed his tune to just needing a break or "hiatus" as he put it. We have had a wonderful relationship and have always gotten along, besides his emotional baggage from his recent divorce we have never had any other problems.
I guess my question is, how long is reasonable to expect this "timeout" to last? Should I wait around for him and if so for how long until I move on? And what are the chances he does come back in the first place? I have not contacted him, although it has only been a week, should I contact him just to 'check in' and say hello?
You and I both know that when he said "He felt he needed his independence and does not want a girlfriend right now," he meant it.
After you badgered him and badgered him --- he changed his plea to just needing a break or hiatus so he could shut you up.
In this case, there isn't a reasonable timeframe for this so-called timeout. Don't wait around for him because the chances are slim to none that he will return to you. Whatever you do, do NOT call him. He has your number too. While you say you haven't contacted him, remember, he hasn't contacted you either.
